A while back I bought this awesome ice cream maker, I used it every day for what seemed like months and then it sat in in my pantry untouched for longer than I care to admit. You know the drill… that awesome appliance you just had to have…
Well, this weekend I suddenly decided to break it out again and I’m so glad I did! It’s so much easier than you think to make your own healthy ice cream at home (in 20 minutes)! Quick side note, you can still make this recipe without an ice cream maker (I included those steps in the recipe), however it will take longer.
I’ve done quite a few experiments over the years getting the consistency just right. Not too icy, not too gummy. A lot of the protein ice cream recipes I’ve tried taste either like a watery slushy, or a chalky soft serve. Not so yummy. I’d rather just go to the local fro-yo or ice cream shop than be unsatisfied! I’m happy to say mine tastes like the real deal 😉 AND you’ll love the flavors I plan to share with you guys in the coming weeks (my list of flavors is getting a bit out of control)!
Hope you guys love it as much as we did!

Ingredients
- 1 medium banana
- 1/4 cup non-fat greek yogurt
- 1/2 scoop Trutein cinnabon protein powder (could sub this with any vanilla protein)
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- 24g chopped dark chocolate or mini chocolate chips (I used 1/2 small dark chocolate bar from Trader Joes)
- 3 tbsp unsweetened vanilla almond milk
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients in food processor until well combined.
- Add to ice cream maker for 20 mins. Alternatively, if you don't have an ice cream maker, put your ice cream in a covered dish in freezer. Remove every 30mins and stir, until desired consistency is reached.
- Enjoy!
